Use the links below to read some interesting and informative articles on different aspect of raising and training your dog.
If you notice any threatening behaviour or signs from your dog to another animal or a human, seek professional help before it develops further - your vet, a canine behaviourist, or registered trainer can help.
You Can't Start Too Early
·
You can start training your puppy basic obedience from when you
take it home such as sit, drop, shake, stay and come. Educating
your puppy makes for a confident puppy – you need to feed their little minds,
but don’t over do it to the point where its no longer fun.
·
Puppy pre-school is a great idea - local vets generally mostly use
positive re-enforcement methods. No matter where you go make sure that their
methods are fun, positive and rewarding for your puppy. Socialisation is the
most important aspect of puppy pre-school, not topping the class. This is NOT
boot camp for your puppy but meant to be fun and nurturing. Teach your puppy
that learning is fun and that it is rewarding to please its owners.
· When it comes to doing formal more advanced training classes with your puppy, contact us here at the club for recommended trainers in your area.
· Always remember you are the pack leader and your puppy looks to you for guidance. Your breeder will guide you with basic training techniques and instructions on raising your puppy, but training classes are still recommended as the social contact is an important part of growing your puppy into a happy, confident and obedient adult dog.
